Maine's core restriction covers concealed carry or threatening display of bowie knives, dirks, stilettos, and other dangerous weapons, a Class D crime punishable by up to one year and a $2,000 fine. A 2015 reform effective October 15, 2015 repealed the automatic knife prohibition. State v. Jones, 46 A.3d 1125 (2012) requires a fact-specific inquiry into a knife's design, primary function, and modifications, and knives used for hunting, fishing, or trapping may be carried concealed.
