Carrying a knife restricted under 269 §10(b), such as a stiletto, dagger, or double-edged knife, carries a state prison sentence of two and one-half to five years for a first offense. On August 27, 2024, the Supreme Judicial Court ruled the ban on carrying switchblades violates the Second Amendment right to bear arms. A statutory oddity also prohibits devices that let a locking-blade knife be drawn already locked, language aimed at quick-draw sheaths, and there is no statewide preemption.
