Key statutes: 13 V.S.A. §§4003, 4004, 4013

Carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure carries up to 2 years, rising to a 10-year felony when multiple persons are targeted, and school possession carries up to 1 year. In State v. Kuzawski (2017), the Vermont Supreme Court held a box cutter was a deadly weapon based on how it was used in threatening a child, not on its intended purpose. In 2025, Vermont eliminated its blade length restriction on automatic knives.
